How the tool works

Add all shared payments, divide by the number of travellers and subtract each person's allocated share from what they already paid. Match people who owe money with people who paid extra. Leftover minor currency units are allocated to the first people in the list so the total reconciles exactly.

What the result covers

For equal splits among two to thirty people, in a single currency. Personal expenses and unequal shares are excluded. Suggested transfers settle the balances but are not guaranteed to be the smallest possible number of transfers. Nothing is charged or transferred by this tool.

Before you go

Do I include someone who has paid nothing yet?
Yes. Add their name with zero paid. They still receive an equal share of the costs and may need to reimburse another traveller.
How are rounding differences handled?
The calculation uses the currency's minor units. Any remainder is assigned one unit at a time to people at the top of the list. Individual shares can therefore differ by one cent, or one yen for JPY.
Can I enter receipts in different currencies?
Convert them into one agreed settlement currency first. This tool treats every payment as being in the selected currency and does not silently convert it.

A few more things, sorted.
